Light Spring Color Palette: Best Colors & Celebrities
Light Spring is a light, warm-leaning season with clear, delicate coloring and low contrast. It is defined first by lightness, then by warmth: its best colors are light, fresh and gently clear, never dark or heavy.
Moodboard and outfit are AI-generated illustrations. Celebrity photos are credited in the celebrities section.
If you have ever been told you look "drained" in black, "heavy" in dark jewel tones, and somehow brighter and more awake in a peach top or a light aqua shirt, you may be a Light Spring. This guide covers how to recognize the season, the exact colors that flatter it (with hex codes you can shop with), what to avoid and why, how to build outfits and a capsule wardrobe, makeup and hair direction, and how to tell Light Spring apart from its closest neighbors.

Where Light Spring sits among the 12 seasons
How to recognize a Light Spring
Skin
Skin is light and warm-leaning: ivory, peach, peachy-beige, light golden-beige or light warm brown, often with a fresh, translucent quality and a natural flush. Undertones are warm but delicate rather than strongly golden, so the skin rarely looks yellow. Many Light Springs have soft freckles. Light Spring is most common on fair to light-medium skin, but it exists on light-brown and golden-brown skin too, wherever the overall coloring reads light, warm and low in contrast.
Eyes
Eyes are light and clear rather than deep or smoky: warm blue, aqua, light green, soft hazel, warm grey-blue or light golden brown, often with golden flecks. They look bright and fresh but rarely striking or icy.
Hair
Natural hair is light and warm: golden blonde, honey blonde, strawberry blonde, light golden brown or light warm brown, often with natural sunny highlights. On deeper skin, hair may be medium to dark brown with a soft golden or honey sheen, but it is the lightness of the overall look that counts. Hair alone is an unreliable clue, because dye, sun and age change it more than skin or eyes.
Signs you're a Light Spring
- Lightness is the first thing people notice about your coloring: light hair, light eyes, light skin, with nothing dark or heavy anywhere.
- Black, charcoal and dark navy look heavy on you. They sit in front of your face and make you look tired, while ivory, camel or light warm grey look easy and fresh.
- Ivory and soft cream flatter you more than bright white, which can look stark and make your skin look flat by comparison.
- Soft yellow gold and rose gold look a little more natural than shiny silver, but matte silver also works.
- Dark, rich colors (burgundy, forest green, chocolate, deep purple) look like they are wearing you, even when they are warm.
- You get compliments in light, warm, fresh colors: peach, coral, buttery yellow, aqua, light green, warm pink, periwinkle.
Signs you're probably not a Light Spring
- Your coloring is medium or deep and clear, and light pastels make you look washed out. That points toward Warm Spring or Bright Spring.
- You have striking contrast between dark hair and light skin, and vivid, saturated colors look better than light ones. That points toward Bright Spring or Bright Winter.
- Cool, rosy pastels such as powder blue, lavender-grey and cool pink look better than any warm pastel. That points toward Light Summer.
- Muted, greyed colors such as sage, mushroom and dusty rose look more harmonious than clear ones. That points toward a Soft season.
The most common mistype
The most common mistype is Light Summer. Both seasons are light and low-contrast, so in poor lighting they can look identical. The difference is the undertone: Light Spring looks better in warm, yellow-leaning light colors (peach, buttercup, warm aqua), while Light Summer looks better in cool, blue-leaning light colors (powder blue, cool pink, lavender). A Light Spring in Summer colors looks pale and slightly grey; a Light Summer in Spring colors looks sallow or flushed. The second most common mistype is Warm Spring, especially for people with golden hair: Warm Spring can carry medium, richer colors such as golden yellow and poppy red that would look heavy on a Light Spring.
Light Spring contrast level
Contrast is the difference in depth between your skin, hair and eyes. Light Springs are typically low to medium-low: the hair is not much darker than the skin, and the eyes are clear but not stark. That is why high-contrast outfits (black with white, navy with bright white) overpower Light Springs, while light-on-light combinations and gentle contrasts (peach with ivory, periwinkle with buttercup) look polished and fresh.
Lighting and camera caveats

stylist re-analyses on the Hathaura platform changed season (small sample)
Lighting changes everything. Warm indoor bulbs add yellow to every color and every skin tone, which can push a Light Summer toward Light Spring in a selfie, and a cool phone flash can do the opposite. Light seasons are also easy to misread as "medium" in dim rooms, because shadows add depth your coloring does not have. When people retook selfie analyses on ColorSnap AI (our own free tool), their season changed 62% of the time (56 of 90 retakes). When stylists re-analyzed a client on the Hathaura platform with a new photo, the season changed once in 15 re-analyses, a small sample but a very different picture. For a reliable read, test colors in indirect daylight near a window, with no makeup, no filters and hair pulled back, and compare two colors at a time. Compare color analysis apps.
Light Spring drape tests
Hold each pair of colors under your chin in daylight, one at a time, and watch your skin, not the fabric.
| Test | Light Spring color | Compare with | What to look for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lightness test | Aqua #7DC8D8 | Dark Winter Deep Teal #285070 | In the light aqua, skin should look fresh and the eyes brighter. In the deep teal, the color dominates and shadows under the eyes and around the mouth look deeper. |
| Warmth test | Coral #EB8C6A | Light Summer Soft Pink #EBAFB8 | Coral should warm the complexion and give it a healthy flush. If the cool pink looks fresher and coral makes you look yellow or ruddy, consider Light Summer. |
| White test | Ivory #E9DED0 | Optical White #FFFFFF | Ivory should look clean and soft. Bright white tends to look stark and make light skin look flat or uneven by comparison. |
| Dark neutral test | Taupe #7A6858 | Jet Black #111111 | Warm taupe should define the face gently. Black tends to sit in front of the face, drain color and make light features disappear. |
| Clarity test | Turquoise #66B8C8 | Soft Summer Teal Blue #5A9AB8 | The clear turquoise should light up your face. If the greyed teal looks more harmonious and turquoise looks loud, consider a Soft season. |
| Depth test | Buttercup #F5E67B | Warm Spring Golden Yellow #D8A838 | A Light Spring looks awake and fresh in the light buttercup. If the deeper golden yellow looks sunny rather than heavy and buttercup looks too pale, consider Warm Spring. |
Light Spring color palette: the best colors
Light Spring colors are light first and warm second. Think of a garden in the first weeks of spring, in soft morning sun: peach and apricot blossom, buttery yellow, new-leaf green, clear aqua water, warm pink and coral petals, with periwinkle and soft lavender in the shade. Every color has some yellow in it and plenty of light, and none is dark, heavy or greyed, which is what lets it sit in harmony with delicate, warm coloring.
The palette is built on light-to-medium values. Your best colors sit in the lighter half: ivory, vanilla, camel, peach, buttercup, aqua, light green and sky blue. The medium colors (coral, turquoise, periwinkle, rose) are your stronger accents. The darker browns and the deepest blues and pinks in the palette work best away from the face or in small amounts; near the face, a light, clear color nearly always beats a dark one.
Use the measured ranges as a shopping check: Light Spring colors are high in lightness and sit in a medium chroma band (clear but gentle, never neon), with hues concentrated in the peach, coral, yellow and yellow-green range, plus warm aqua, light warm blues and soft violet. A color that looks "dark", "dusty", "icy" or "electric" is almost always outside the range.

Colors to avoid for Light Spring
- Anything dark or heavy (black, charcoal, burgundy, dark navy, forest green) is far deeper than your coloring and drags the face down.
- Anything cool or icy (icy blue, blue-grey, cool silver-grey) clashes with your warmth and makes light skin look pale or grey.
- Anything muted or dusty (mauve, taupe-grey, dusty rose, grey-green) dulls the fresh, clear quality of your coloring.
- Very intense brights and stark extremes (neon, emerald, royal purple, black with white) create more contrast and saturation than your coloring has.
Swap this for that
Jet Black #111111 → Taupe #7A6858
Far too dark; it overpowers light, delicate features.
Optical White #FFFFFF → Ivory #E9DED0
Too stark; light skin looks flat next to it.
Soft Summer Charcoal #322C2A → Stone #B8B0A0
Too dark and cool for light, warm coloring.
Bright Spring Emerald #38A868 → Spring Green #8FC878
Too deep and intense; it wears you.
Cool Winter Royal Purple #504890 → Soft Purple #9A8CB8
Too dark and cool next to warm, light skin.
Soft Summer Dusty Rose #C89EA8 → Rose #DA8CA0
Too greyed; it dulls your fresh coloring.
Best neutrals for Light Spring
Your neutrals are light, warm and clear: ivory, vanilla, cream, beige, stone, camel and toffee, with warm taupe and warm brown as the darkest you need.
Swap black for taupe, warm brown or a medium blue. Swap bright white for ivory or vanilla. Swap charcoal and cool grey for stone or beige.
Light Springs do not need dark neutrals to look polished. Light neutral bases (ivory, camel, stone) with one fresh color near the face are the easiest formula, and whole outfits in your light colors also work.
Light Spring outfits, clothing and color combinations
The best Light Spring combinations repeat the lightness and low contrast of your coloring. Tone-on-tone outfits in light warm neutrals (ivory, vanilla, camel) look effortless, and analogous outfits (neighboring warm colors such as peach and buttercup) look fresh and sunny. When you want more interest, use a balanced contrast: two light colors from opposite sides of the color wheel, such as aqua with coral.
Use proportions to keep outfits light: about 60% main color (often a light neutral), 30% secondary color, and 10% accent. If you use one of the darker colors in the palette, keep it to the 10% or wear it on the lower half, and keep the lightest colors near your face.

Prints, fabrics, metals and jewelry for Light Spring

Prints and patterns
- Choose light, fresh prints with low internal contrast: watercolor and small florals, botanicals, soft geometrics, fine stripes, small polka dots and medium-scale paisleys in warm, light colors.
- Keep at least 60–70% of a print's colors inside your palette, and avoid prints built on black, navy or stark white grounds.
- Small-to-medium prints look most natural. Large, bold or high-contrast graphics overpower light coloring, and dark, busy prints make it disappear.
- Animal prints work only in their lightest, warmest versions (sandy or honey leopard on a cream ground) rather than black-and-white or dark brown.
Fabrics and finishes
- Light, fluid and fine fabrics echo Light Spring coloring: cotton voile, poplin, linen, silk, chiffon, fine-gauge knits, light cashmere and soft lightweight wool.
- Very heavy, thick or dark-textured fabrics (chunky dark tweed, heavy leather, dense velvet) can look weighty on you. If you love texture, choose it in light, warm colors.
- A soft sheen suits you better than either flat matte or high shine: satin-finish silk, pearlized buttons and a fine gold thread add light without glare.
Best metals for Light Spring
Because the undertone is warm but delicate, many Light Springs can wear both gold and silver, with gold usually looking a touch better. Light, fine pieces suit you better than heavy, chunky ones, and polished or soft-sheen finishes look better than dark, oxidized ones.
Best
Soft yellow gold, Rose gold, Champagne gold
Also good
Matte silver, Bronze, Brass
Use with care
Gunmetal and black metal, Heavy oxidized silver, Very chunky, dark antique finishes
Stones: Citrine, Peridot, Morganite, Pink tourmaline, Aquamarine, Light jade, Rose quartz, Cream or peach pearls.
- Glasses frames: light or honey tortoiseshell, clear peach or champagne, light camel, soft gold metal. Avoid black and dark, heavy frames.
- Nails: peach, coral, warm nude, soft warm pink, light coral red; sheer or glossy finishes.
- Bags and shoes: camel, light tan, toffee, ivory and nude leather rather than black.
Light Spring makeup and hair colors

Foundation
Look for light warm or neutral-warm shades with a peachy or soft golden base, in a luminous, satin or natural finish. Avoid pink-based shades, which look cool on you, and very yellow or orange shades, which look heavy on light skin. Test in daylight on the jawline.
Blush and bronzer
Soft peach, coral, apricot and warm pink. Keep bronzer very light and warm, or skip it in favor of a peach blush; a soft champagne or peach highlighter suits you better than a gold or bronze one.
Lips
Peach, coral, peachy pink and warm nude for every day; a clear coral red or warm rose for evening. Satin, sheer and glossy finishes work well. Avoid dark berries, browns, blue-reds and frosty cool pinks.
Eyes
Golden beige, camel, peach, light taupe and soft warm brown. Light green, aqua or periwinkle work as a soft pop of color along the lash line.
Liner and mascara
Warm brown or soft brown-black rather than jet black, which can look harsh against light coloring. On very fair, light-haired Light Springs, brown mascara is usually the most natural choice.

Best hair colors for Light Spring
Light Springs look best in hair colors that stay light, warm and clear: golden or honey blonde, strawberry blonde, light golden brown and light warm brown with golden highlights.
Avoid colors that add depth or coolness your coloring does not have: jet black, dark chocolate, cool ash brown, icy platinum and deep auburn or burgundy.
Dimension helps. Fine golden, honey or butter-blonde highlights a shade or two lighter than your base keep the sunlit, light effect Light Spring hair has naturally.
Talking to your colourist
- Bring this phrase: "I'm a Light Spring: light and warm. I want a light, warm, clear color with soft golden highlights, nothing dark, ashy or heavy."
- Ask for golden, honey or warm-beige tones (often called G, beige or warm series) rather than ash, or deep copper and red.
- Keep the color within about two levels of your natural depth, and lean lighter rather than darker if in doubt.
- Ask for a golden or beige gloss every few months to keep the color shiny and warm rather than brassy or faded.
- Bring photos of the result you want in daylight, not under salon lights.
Light Spring going grey and over 50
Going grey as a Light Spring
- Natural grey on a Light Spring often comes in as a soft, creamy or golden-white grey that blends easily with light blonde or light brown hair.
- If you are going grey, golden or butter-blonde highlights blend the transition better than covering it with one darker shade, which adds contrast and shows roots quickly.
- Once your hair is lighter, keep warmth and color near the face with ivory, peach, coral, buttercup and aqua, and use camel, stone and medium blue for trousers, coats and bags. Avoid cool silver-greys near the face, which can make warm skin look pale and grey next to light hair.
Light Spring over 50
- Your season does not usually change with age, and Light Spring coloring often gets even lighter. The lightest, clearest colors in the palette (peach, ivory, aqua, light green, buttercup) tend to look best.
- Dark colors become even harder to wear as coloring lightens. Taupe, camel and a soft medium blue keep definition without adding age.
- Warmth near the face (coral, peach blush, a warm pink lip) restores color that skin loses over time.
- Luminous or satin makeup stays flattering; very matte, heavy foundations can make light skin look flat, and chunky shimmer can emphasize texture.
Light Spring vs. neighboring seasons

| Light Spring | Neutral-warm | Light | Medium-clear | Light, delicate, airy |
| Warm Spring | Warm | Light-medium | Bright (clear) | Sunny, golden, fresh |

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light Summer | Medium Taupe | Cocoa | Light Taupe | Dusty Rose | Medium Blue | Mint | Medium Taupe | Raspberry |
Light Spring vs. Light Summer
What they share: Both are light seasons with delicate coloring and low contrast, and both look best in light, gentle colors rather than dark ones.
What separates them: Undertone. Light Spring is warm-leaning and slightly clearer; Light Summer is cool-leaning and slightly softer.
Drape test: Hold a light peach and a cool, light pink under your chin in daylight. The one that makes skin look fresh and even (rather than yellow or grey) is your side of the line.
Light Spring vs. Warm Spring (True Spring)
What they share: Both are warm, clear Spring seasons that suit gold, peach, coral and turquoise.
What separates them: Which quality leads. Light Spring is defined by lightness and needs paler, more delicate colors; Warm Spring is defined by warmth and carries medium, richer ones.
Drape test: Compare a light, buttery pastel with a clear golden yellow. If the golden yellow looks sunny rather than heavy, you are probably Warm Spring; if it overpowers you and the pastel looks best, you are on the Light Spring side.

Making the change to a Light Spring wardrobe
- Don't throw everything out. Sort your wardrobe into three piles: in-palette, close (wearable with help), and out.
- Move out-of-palette colors away from your face. Dark trousers or a black skirt can stay; a black or charcoal top can be worn under an ivory or camel layer, or with a scarf in peach, aqua or buttercup.
- Replace the pieces you wear most first: coat, everyday knitwear and your most-worn tops.
- Shop with your palette on your phone. Compare the item to your swatches in daylight before buying.
- Change makeup, jewelry and glasses frames early: they sit closest to your face and make the biggest difference for the least money.
- Give it four to six weeks. Most people notice they get more compliments and spend less time deciding what to wear.
Self-test: are you a Light Spring?
Six or seven "yes" answers: Light Spring is very likely. Four or five: you are probably a light or warm season; check the Light Summer and Warm Spring comparisons below. Three or fewer: look at the other seasons in the Hathaura Color Standard, or book a professional analysis.
Light Spring FAQ
What colors look best on a Light Spring?
Light, warm, gently clear colors: ivory, vanilla, camel, stone, peach, coral, buttercup yellow, light green, aqua, turquoise, sky blue, periwinkle, warm pink and soft lavender. Every color has some yellow in it and plenty of light.
Can Light Springs wear black?
Not near the face, ideally. Black is far darker than light coloring and makes your features disappear. Taupe, warm brown and a soft medium blue give definition without the weight. If you love black, wear it on the lower half or with an ivory or peach layer near your face.
Can Light Springs wear white?
Choose ivory, vanilla or soft warm white instead of bright optical white, which looks stark and can make light skin look flat by comparison.
Is Light Spring warm or cool?
Warm-leaning, but lightness comes first. It is less golden than Warm Spring, which is why Light Springs can often wear soft silver and why the season is so often confused with Light Summer.
What is the difference between Light Spring and Light Summer?
Both are light and low-contrast. Light Spring leans warm and slightly clearer (peach, buttercup, warm aqua); Light Summer leans cool and slightly softer (powder blue, cool pink, lavender). Test a light peach against a cool light pink in daylight.
Can Light Springs wear gold or silver jewelry?
Both, usually. Soft yellow gold, rose gold and champagne gold are the best match; matte silver also works. Choose fine, light pieces over heavy, dark or oxidized ones.
What hair color suits a Light Spring?
Light, warm, clear shades within about two levels of your natural color: golden or honey blonde, strawberry blonde, light golden brown or light warm brown with golden highlights. Avoid jet black, dark chocolate, ash and icy platinum.
Is a selfie color analysis app accurate for Light Spring?
It can be a useful first read, but lighting matters a lot for light seasons, because warm bulbs push undertones toward Spring and dim rooms make light coloring look deeper. In our data, when people retook a selfie analysis, the season changed 62% of the time. Use daylight, no filters, and confirm with drape tests or a professional.
Can your season change from Light Spring as you age?
Your underlying season usually stays the same, and Light Spring coloring often gets lighter with age and greying hair. Many Light Springs find the lightest, freshest colors in the palette work best later in life.
